Hello,
I was wondering if any CenteringParenting sites are including their group's CenteringPregnancy provider facilitator (OB/GYN or midwife) in the first few CenteringParenting sessions as a way to provide post-partum/continuity care for mom?
Also, is anyone including Physical Therapy in their groups? And if yes, how are the therapists billing for their time?
Thank you! Erin Conklin

I love these questions and am looking forward to hearing what others have to say! I have always imagined that centering care helps with mild to moderate postpartum anxiety and depression and am interested to see what others have noticed and how they support the transition to parenthood.

That is a great idea. The site I am currently with have baby reunion 6 weeks after the last baby is born. About 50% of the group show it would be daunting to incorporate PP follow up.🤓

Our Centering Pregnancy Director who is the Lead Midwife at our practice tries to come to as many sessions as she can for the 1st year of life. To help answer questions regarding post-partum depression, birth control and any other issues that may arise. Our patients love having this opportunity as we tell them in Pregnancy we are all now family and that truly sticks with us. Our patients are family and they know that they can call the co- facilitator anytime and we will connect them to the right person to talk to.

Thank you for the information, Sally! Does your Centering Pregnancy Director/Lead Midwife do any sort of health assessment for the moms during CenteringParenting? If yes, could you share the details, including if this is captured as a billable visit?
Thank you again! Erin Conklin

I have been thinking about the same thing as we look to start Centering Parenting next month! We would like to phase out our PP reunions and connect them with parenting. We are having our behavioral health specialist be a continuity piece from Centering Pregnancy into Centering Parenting and she will continue to evaluate for perinatal mood disorders throughout the first year postpartum. I would love to have our midwife or OB present for parenting groups to do a quick PP physical evaluation, but I don't have the physical space to do both the baby exam and mom's exam at that first visit. Right now our plan is to phase out the PP reunion as we emphasize parenting groups and go back to individual Postpartum exams for mom. Our providers felt like they needed more individual time with moms for the individual examinations. But if anyone has any input regarding combining the postpartum exam/first parenting group, please let me know!

I know this is a very old thread, but would love to hear if/how it worked out to incorporate a BHP in CenteringParenting! Currently we have a provider and health educator facilitating groups and occasionally have residents as well. Does the BHP facilitate or do they speak to moms during the baby exam portions?
