We have been working on making our groups more fun and engaging and I wanted to share some of those ideas. At our second session we started having a tea party. We bring in different types of tea and fancy cookies. We serve the ladies from a cute tea set and sit around the table to discuss common discomforts. We use the opportunity to talk about how certain types of tea may help with nausea and we discuss the importance of adequate fluid intake. The women really get into it and have interacted very well during this session. Inspired by a comment on one of the Centering Connects threads, we hosted our first ever Centering Spa Day for our stress management session. It was a lot of fun and the ladies loved it! We had a "manicure" station where we provided the with a mini nail polish and nail file we got at the dollar store as well as some lotion; we had a "facial station" where we had cleansing face wipes available and a hydrating face spray they could use and we also had gel eye masks that we had refrigerated. We had warm towels, hand-held massagers and even did a foot soak with Epsom salts and lavender essential oil. We set out things for them to make lavender sachets and heating pads out of rice and tube socks. If anyone else has any fun ideas they do love to hear about them

Wow! This is awesome! How do you go about this? Do you partner up with vendors? This is very interesting. This is definitely a great stress reliever. Thanks for sharing!

It took a little planning, but wasn't to difficult to pull off. We used a lot of things we already had available or budgeted. We do snacks at every visit, but just tried to make everything seem fancier. Our groups have always done homemade "heating pads" and budget for the rice and tube socks. I just purchased some lavender in bulk from Amazon to add to them from now on. The towels and basins are things we already had available in the clinic and some of things like the plant, the facial wipes, facial spray, hand lotion, and epsom salt I just brought in from home. Some of the other items like the manicure stuff, and hand lotions we were able to purchase with funding we had allotted for an incentive program. We also bought the massagers as Centering facilitation supplies. We use them to do a massage circle at the end, but patients don't take them home so that we can have them for other groups. Almost everything was purchased at the Dollar Tree. Our health system employs an outreach coordinator and she can often help with securing donations. In the future, I will probably turn to her to see if she can get us some travel size goodies for patients to take home, but I feel like you could have a fun spa day much simpler without the giveaways. *Oh, for many of these ideas I just searched "spa themed party" on pinterest.*

I met the folks from Eskenazi Health Center at the Indiana CP Consortium. You folks have developed amazing and fun opportunities for your pregnant moms... tea parties & Spa day... makes me wish I was pregnant again to join you! These are wonderful examples of how we can enhance our Centering program, but most importantly deeply care and love the women we care for. Thank YOU so much for sharing.
